Blog 4: Your Personal Learning Networks and Inclusion

This week I learned about how social media is helping us build inclusion and diversity in our profession. Inclusive and diverse perspectives are crucial in any professional field. Social media is a powerful tool to help us integrate our profession and expand our horizons.

Social media inclusivity:

  1. Accessibility: Social media platforms should ensure that their interfaces and content are accessible to users with physical disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, and other special needs.
  2. Multilingual support: Inclusive social media should provide multilingual support so that users of a variety of different languages can easily participate. This includes multilingual interfaces, translation tools, and the presentation of multilingual content.
  3. Anti-discrimination policy: Social media platforms should explicitly oppose discrimination, including racial discrimination, gender discrimination, sexual orientation discrimination, etc.
  4. Privacy protection: Social media platforms should take measures to protect the privacy of their users and prevent the misuse of personal information, especially for those who may be at particular risk.

For my own personal learning network, I see it as diverse. I was able to reach out to people from different countries, cultures, and perspectives. This allows me to better develop my profession and learn from the different perspectives of people with different backgrounds and experiences on the same thing. This has been very helpful in broadening my own horizons.

In order to be exposed to diversity and inclusion, I will occasionally follow the social media accounts of economics experts from different cultures and backgrounds. It is easy to access a lot of different information on social media. These help to ensure that I am not just limited to a particular view of economics. Through active participation in social media and continuous learning, we can apply our newfound knowledge and experience to improve ourselves and become better.

The likelihood that people will continue to use the content and networks they have created is very high because they are able to enrich their networks and expand their horizons continually. If you are able to utilize your PLN effectively and apply what you have learned, your skills will be more likely to be applicable to professional practice and have a positive impact on your career. Through active interaction and continuous learning, personal learning networks can remain active and generate long-term value.
